Why trusting your intuition is so important

By Tanya Faramarzian

Everyone talks about honing in on your intuition and going with that 'gut' feeling. But what happens if you have that feeling and your mind cuts in and says 'that's ridiculous, it won't happen' and then it does.... you are left saying oh I should have listened... well, why didn't you?.

Yes, why didn't you? Let me help you with that, with a simple example. Last month, I needed to leave the house to pick up my daughter from school. Now, I normally listen to my intuition (it is always right,) but today I didn't. I had a feeling to take my umbrella, but I made the mistake of listening to my conscious mind, who looked out the window and saw the sun and said don't be stupid, it's not going to rain. Can you guess what happened? by the time I got to her school, it was pouring rain.

You see, your intuition doesn't come from the mind. But as adults our brains (the conscious mind) loves nothing more than to come up with rational talk, reminding you of other times you made mistakes and generally nit picking at your choices (after all if you can't see it, how can it be right?) the problem with this, is that after a while you stop listening to your real self and start looking to other people on how you should live your life (hello, social media).

From what I can see, today's society is all about following other people and listening to what they think you should be doing. The next influencer, celebrity, other parents, the government, your group of friends, your family, etc. The problem with listening to other people is that they are only thinking about themselves and what they like. What if you like something else? Sometimes you need to trust in yourself and LISTEN to yourself and do what is right for YOU.

If you are struggling to hear your intuition, here are some ways to activate it:

- Meditation (10-20 mins a day, with the goal to heal the mind/body connection).

- Taking a chance and actually listening to what your gut says (just to see if it happens).

- Start doing daily body scans.

- Spending time in nature by yourself (no phone or music).

- Do weekly social media/technology fasts (basically stop using it for a set time).

- Ask your intuition questions and start talking.

- Journaling your observations (your conscious mind will need proof).

- Start trusting yourself.

What I would like you to take away from this article is that trusting yourself, your instinct, is more important than listening to what others say you should be or do. So next time you hear a little voice say you should go right, give it a try and see what happens. You never know what it may or may not be pointing to and how important it could be for you.

Ciao for now Tanya xxx
